Since 1989, the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio have been attending Girl Scout Night at the Dayton Opera. The scouts attend four hands-on sessions: wigs & make-up, dance, music & voice, backstage tour and receive a specially-designed commemorative patch from Dayton Opera. After a dinner break, the scouts attend a performance of the opera in the beautiful Schuster Center.
This year, 250 scouts and chaperones signed up for the Friday, February 24, performance of Charles Gounod’s romantic opera “Romeo and Juliet,” making it a sell-out. Dayton Opera is adding a second workshop at it’s Sunday, February 26th, matinee performance. The workshop begins at 11 a.m. and breaks at 1 p.m. for lunch before returning to the Schuster Center for the 3 p.m. performance.
Reservations are available for the Sunday event by contacting Mindy Wallace at 228-7591 ext. 3039 or mindy.wallace@victoriatheatre.com. The workshop and performance is $20 per scout. A special Friday dinner and Sunday lunch is also available at Carmen’s Deli for $10 and is limited to 100 per workshop.
Dayton Opera’s Girl Scout Night at the Opera is sponsored by: Drs. Ingrid Brown & Troy Tyner, Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP and Carmen’s Deli.
