2011 Board Holiday Brunch

It’s not all work. The Board takes a wee break in December to toast the holiday and share each others company. This year Wendy Lewis acted as hostess to this wonderful tradition. See the whole album of photos on the Opera Guild of Dayton Facebook page.

2011 Annual Meeting
The 2011 Annual Meeting wrapped up most events of the exciting 2010-2011 year which was full of wonderful and challenging activities. Laura Fike was thanked for her tireless work in leading the Guild as our President. The gavel was ceremonially passed to new Guild President Toni Winger.

The Guild introduced new Board of Directors at the meeting. These included Alice Roedersheimer, Beverly Cowden and Susan Herman. We are looking forward to working with them in the upcoming years.

The Guild appreciates the assistance of innumerable people throughout the year in their work in support of Dayton Opera. In thanks to our very special volunteers, the Guild announced the Friend of the Year as Reverend Gary Eichorn of Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Reverend Gary hosted the High School Vocal Competition at his church. Chair Linda Menz has found Reverend Gary to be an enormous aid to the Guild’s young singer event.

Guild members devote endless hours in meetings, phone calls, hosting, office management, event attendance and so much more. The Guild’s BRAVO! Award recognizes extraordinary contributions of self over time. In 2011, the Guild recognized Rosalie Jennings for her example in all of these areas. Thank you, Rosalie!

Boutique

The Guild Boutique is more exciting than ever this season with the addition of some wonderful new items and the return of our popular one-size popcorn tops, shawls, evening bags and fun fashion jewelry. Visit us in the Schuster Center lobby along Second Street beginning with opening night, one hour before opera performances and during intermissions.

We offer an assortment of opera glasses with the more poplar styles from last year, plus a few new ones. We also carry CDs and DVDs of the season’s operas that have been recommended by Dayton Opera’s Tom Bankston, as well as other opera CDs endorsed by the late Charles Wendelken-Wilson.

Support Extraordinaire!

At the recent 2011 Membership Luncheon on February 3, President Laura Fike reviewed a recent history of the Guild’s financial and in-kind support to Dayton Opera. Since 2000, the Guild has provided cash contributions in the amount of $1,162,500 and countless in-kind donations of star hospitality, cast refreshments, ushering and more worth over $800,000.

Dayton Opera is important to the Guild and we love to show it!
