Soprano Shana Blake Hill (Star Gala: Opera Goes to the Movies 2001; Musetta, La Boheme 2003) returns to Dayton Opera to sing her first Violetta, the Parisian courtesan who sacrifices her love and her life. In their Dayton Opera debuts, tenor Chad Johnson* sings Alfredo and baritone Daesan No* is Germont.  Dayton Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds* will conduct in his debut performances with the company.

FAUST
April 10, 16 & 18, 2010

Returning in the title role of Gounod’s grand and devilish opera Faust is tenor Scott Piper in his sixth appearance with Dayton Opera. Favorite Dayton Opera bass, David Michael (Banquo, Macbeth 2008) sings his first Mephistopheles, and soprano Anne-Carolyn Bird (Rosina, The Barber of Seville 2008) returns for her first Marguerite. Joseph Mechavich, conductor of last season’s The Elixir of Love, will conduct this great work of French composer Charles Gounod.

THE MIKADO
May 14, 15 & 16, 2010

W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s The Mikado, closes the 49th season of Dayton Opera. Performing this over the top G & S comic classic will be America’s preeminent professional Gilbert and Sullivan repertory company the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, Albert Bergeret, Artistic Director *.

Join University of Dayton Music Professor Eric Street for a look at the music, plot and background of Gounod's devilish masterpiece and musical excerpts from the opera. A DAI docent will share information about the art of the period and highlight pieces from the DAI's collection.
